For me, there is something very soothing about making ceramic art. Perhaps it's because of how strongly working with clay makes me feel connected to the earth, or maybe it's because exploring with clay brings me back to a more carefree time in life when I was a little girl and played with mud pies in our garden and built sand castles at the beach. Either way, I feel very connected to the medium of clay and find it a very peaceful artform to work with.
My love of gardening and nature deeply inspires my clay work and challenges me to connect these two areas in creative ways. Whether I am throwing a pot on a wheel, or hand building, I feel compelled to incorporate designs and textures from nature into my pieces through carving, sgraffito, sculpture, and imprints.
By combining these techniques, with a variety of different clay bodies, oxides and glazes, I try to create organically inspired ceramics that are unique one-of-a-kind pieces. Most of my designs are made from stoneware and can be used in the microwave, dishwasher and oven. I hope you feel inspired by my work and find a piece that you feel a special connection to.
